Becoming a VolunteerEach year, over one million Americans serve as Red Cross volunteers, serving local community needs, helping people in emergencies, providing half the nation’ s blood supply, teaching first aid and CPR courses, delivering emergency messages to members of the military, and teaching youth how to prevent and respond to disasters.
Mid-Southerners have always been very generous with their financial donations and with their time. This became very evident during the recent local flooding. The Mid-South Red Cross had over 600 volunteers and agency partners assist its efforts of providing disaster relief and sheltering services to those evacuees.
Making the commitment to become an American Red Cross volunteer can be one of the most rewarding experiences of your lifetime. Once you have completed the volunteer application and volunteer orientation, the Red Cross will provide you with all the training necessary to get you started as a volunteer. During this training you will learn to work in various situations. Depending on your involvement, you may be working in a local disaster delivering needed disaster relief to your neighbors. You will be taught to communicate effectively with those you are working with, both disaster clients and other volunteers, as well as Red Cross professionals who are working with you side by side.
If you have more questions about the volunteer opportunities available at the local chapter office, please call (901) 672-6390 or email bailleyj@midsouthredcross.org.
If you are a current volunteer or someone who has received service from one of our volunteers and would like to share your story for possible use on the web site or in our newsletter please email piercec@midsouthredcross.org or call (901)726-1690 and tell us about your experience.
